I would have, in no case ever, given up rights to the photo. That's just not what I'm interested in. I am, however, not in the photo business (anymore) so I have that luxury.

That's said, depending on use, I have no qualms about giving away shots (limited or one-time use) for free or for trivial amounts (yes $100 is a trivial amount). I've had several of my Flickr photos used -- with my permission and my attribution -- by various online sites for free. Meh, I figure, those are mostly (relatively) low traffic sites that may not be here next year.

Now, as you point out, a book cover is a different thing. Yes, they did have a $3000 budget and you did the right thing by telling them to pay up or hit the road.

I'd have offered them a non-exclusive rate in the $600-$1000 range (with attribution) and not cared a whit if they accepted or not.

I accidentally disturbed a wild birds nest. The mother bird built a nest in my bag of top soil and not knowing that she had laid a next and she appears to have about 6 babies in it. I am afraid she wont come back who can I call to possible have someone rescue the baby birds.

Adobe Photoshop is simply the best photo editing tool on the market. I often use it a lot on my photo studio and also in webpage design

I run a small photo studio and i also work as a web designer and Adobe Photoshop has been the bread and butter of my job. Photoshop is really the best photo editing tool that i have ever used.

Thanks for the comment photoman022. Indeed low cost optical slaves, like Wein peanut work wonders . . . unless you have Canon 580EX's or 580EX II's. They apparently don't like unpowered slaves. I know I can attach radio triggers to them, but putting them on a Hotshoe or PC socket attached optical slave is an exercise in frustration.

You don't need (or in most cases want) expensive speedlights for these off camera lights if your not shooting in your system's wireless system. A $30 Vivitar and a $10 slave will make an excellent hair light or kicker or background light.
